The following terms and conditions of participation (which may be amended by the Aberfeldie Jets Basketball Club (AJBC) from time to time) are the conditions upon which members agree to participate at the AJBC. Upon registering with the AJBC and payment of all fees due and payable, you will become a member of the AJBC and accept these terms and conditions of participation.

Compliance and Code of Conduct
I am participating in the AJBC activities either as an individual participant or together with my child/dependent, who is participating in the activities. I (and where applicable my child/dependent) acknowledge and agree that:

  • I/we will be bound by and will comply with the constitutions, by-laws, rules, policies, child safe standards, terms and conditions of participation, and codes of conduct of the AJBC, Keilor Basketball Association (KBA) and Basketball Victoria (BV) and Behaviour Policy as published on the AJBC and KBA websites;
  • others in my company agree to treat all involved in the game fairly, without bullying, intimidation, or unfair criticism. We will support our team through positive encouragement, and we acknowledge that coaching is the responsibility of the appointed coach. Our role is to support the team respectfully from the sidelines;
  • any form of physical violence, profanity or abusive language by my child, myself or others in our company towards referees, AJBC or KBA officials, coaches, team managers, scorers, teammates, opponents, or spectators is strictly unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances; and
  • I/we are subject to the authority of any basketball tribunal or disciplinary process administered by these organisations or any relevant disciplinary body.

I/we commit to treating all referees, officials, coaches, team managers, scorers, teammates, opponents, and spectators with respect and civility, both on and off the court. I/we will always demonstrate good sportsmanship whether participating, training, or spectating. I/we accept all decisions made by referees and will respond to them with appropriate respect.

Child Safety
The AJBC is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. By participating in AJBC activities, all participants (including parents/guardians) agree to:

  • support the AJBC’s commitment to child safety and comply with child safety laws, including the Child Safe Standards;
  • treat all children and young people with respect and care;
  • report any concerns about child safety to a Club official or Child Safety Officer;
  • not engage in any behaviour that could harm a child, including abuse, grooming, or neglect;
  • comply with screening or Working with Children Check requirements if applicable; and
  • follow any directions from the Club in response to child safety concerns.

Registration Fees
I acknowledge that:

  • the season registration fees I agree to pay cover training and game day court hire, referee payments, weekly score sheet fees, training/coaching equipment for each team, registration with the KBA including a team entry fee and insurance cover for injuries while participating in AJBC and KBA sanctioned events, registration with BV and game day entry into venues managed by the KBA only for the season in which my child is financial;
  • registration fees do not cover uniform or merchandise costs which are additional

   I understand that Coaches are volunteers, and their coaching/basketball experience will vary.

Indemnity
I acknowledge that basketball, while classified as a non-contact sport, is a fast-paced sport where accidents may occur. I will make every effort to attend, or ensure a responsible adult is present at all games, training sessions, and other related basketball activities if participation is involving my child/dependent. I indemnify the AJBC, including its employees, volunteers, committee members, representatives and agents, against any loss, damage, liability, cost or expense suffered or incurred by me or arising from my child/dependent’s participation (if applicable) in AJBC activities, except to the extent that such claims are covered under AJBC’s insurance policy. 

I undertake that if I or my child/dependent are injured or suffer loss or damage to property, the AJBC, its servants and agents shall not be responsible for such injury, loss or damage whether or not such injury, loss or damage was caused by the AJBC or its servants and agents, by negligence or otherwise, unless such injury loss or damage was covered by an insurance policy held by the AJBC.  

This survives termination of the Participant’s membership or involvement in the AJBC. I agree that if I or my child/dependent cause injury, loss or damage to any other person or property in any way, I shall pay for that injury, loss or damage as required by law and I shall keep the AJBC, its servants and agents indemnified against such injury, loss or damage unless such injury loss or damage was covered by an insurance policy held by the AJBC.

Medical Treatment
In the event of an emergency, where it is impracticable to communicate with me, I authorise the coach or team manager in charge to consent to any necessary medical treatment for my child/dependent. I agree to cover any costs that may arise from such treatment.

Attendance
I acknowledge that registered players are required to attend and participate in their team’s weekly training and that I must notify the coach and/or team manager if the player cannot attend training and/or game day for any reason.

Should I wish the KBA to provide qualification dispensation for finals, I understand that I must provide a medical certificate for any games missed to the Club within 14 days of the initial injury or aggravation of pre-existing injury.

Photography and Social Media
I acknowledge that photographs and videos of my child/dependent and I may be captured by AJBC, BV, KBA, BBA staff, volunteers, approved media personnel, via Glory League and/or authorised third-party partners during basketball activities. I provide for these images and recordings to be used for the following purposes:

  • the promotion of the AJBC, including promotional use across official social media such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and the AJBC website;
  • basketball training purposes and player development;
  • safety monitoring,
  • tribunal matters, and
  • the sport of basketball more broadly.

I provide consent for myself and/or my child/dependent being photographed and/or recorded for such purposes.

By registering with the AJBC, I confirm that I have also read and agree to all the terms and conditions of Basketball Victoria’s (BV) and the relevant association’s Image Use and Social Media policies. I understand that it is my responsibility to inform the AJBC, BV and the relevant association in writing if there are specific circumstances that would require myself and/or my child to be exempt from the terms of the Image Use and Social Media policies.

Privacy
The AJBC is committed to protecting the privacy of its members in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. We collect, use, and store personal information including contact details, health information and emergency contacts for purposes directly related to participation in Club activities, administration, and compliance with our obligations to Basketball Victoria, Keilor Basketball Association and Broadmeadows Basketball Association.

This information is handled securely and is not disclosed to third parties except as required by law or with your consent. By registering with the AJBC, you consent to the collection and use of your personal information as outlined.

By registering, I consent to the sharing of my personal information, including my name, phone number, and email address, within the AJBC. This information may be used for purposes such as training allocations, team coordination, arranging fill-ins, and broader operational activities related to the functioning of basketball programs and events.

You can also choose to keep your child’s name private on PlayHQ by adjusting the privacy settings in their profile. This will need to be completed via your PlayHQ account.

Volunteer Services
I acknowledge that the AJBC Committee, Coaches and Team Managers are volunteers and give freely of their time so that my child can play basketball. I agree to treat them in accordance with the aforementioned codes of conduct at all times. I understand that the success of the club depends on volunteers, and I will offer my services to assist the club in any way that is viable.

Refund Policy
I acknowledge I am bound by the AJBC refund policy which can be found on the Club website. 

By registering myself and/or my child to play for the AJBC, either via the wait list or in paying registration fees, I agree to the terms and conditions above. I acknowledge that these terms and conditions can change at any time and the latest copy can be found on the AJBC website.
