Zip it! Stop the abuse towards referees
The Keilor Basketball Association have seen a recent spike in negative behaviour from spectators towards referees at Junior Domestic on Saturday’s and quite frankly some of the behaviour is downright appalling.
Under no circumstances is anyone to approach (or heckle) referees (during or) after the game. If you have an issue with referees you need to submit your complaint in writing to your respective Club or fill out the KBA’s online feedback form found here.
We want our children to be able to play in a safe, competitive and supportive environment. It is NEVER acceptable to verbally or physically assault another person and that includes at basketball.
The Keilor Basketball Association’s Participant Behaviour Policy and Basketball Victoria’s Codes of Conduct clearly outline acceptable behaviour. Have a read and remember, sometimes the best thing to do when your emotions are getting the better of you is to just WALK AWAY.
Don’t be that parent! Spectators can be reported and suspended too. If you feel so passionately about refereeing feel free to sign up to the next referees course and make a difference.
We need referees to play! Please treat them with respect.
